jaisamand is the second biggest artificial sweet water lake in the world covering an area of 36 square miles (93 km2) The Lake was built by Maharana Jai Singh in 1685 there was a great need for water for cultivation in Mewar’s southeastern corne which was fullfuild by the maharna . The lake is deep to the maximum of 102 feet and has a circumference of 30 miles.
The lake has elegant step leading to the water and marble Chhatri (cenotaphs) on its bank and a small Shiv temple marks the grace of the lake. Jaisamand Lake was the largest artificial lake in Asia, till the time when Aswan Dam of Egypt was not constructed. Jai Samand Lake lies close to a wildlife sanctuary which provides habitat to various types of birds and animals.
